Bullying Should Be Stopped!!
Did you know one out of three children everyday gets bullied at school (“Bullying” The New Book)? According of the Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, bullying is an aggressive action toward anybody at any age mainly between twelve and eighteen. There are several reasons why a person is bullied such as race, weight, sexual orientation, ethnicity, physical disabilities, and even by the wealth of a person (Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia). Joseph Gambardello says that seventy-five percent of students drop out of school because of the bulling that’s been taking place. Bullying can happen in many ways like harassment, sexual harassment, name-calling, physical contact, computers, or even through a text message that somebody has sent (Joseph Gambardello).
By ages of 15 to 17, four out of five students has a cell phone to where the bullying can travel along by a text. This age group is hit the hardest because teens already go through as it is when they are young. In addition, these teens are more likely to know who is victimizing them and are most likely to not speak out of fear of having their technology taking away ("Ages of Kids Involved in Cyber Bullying.") Kids from all ages from 6 to 17 are the target of being bullied either by another kid or by an electronic device. Not only are the children involved in bullying, but the parents are to. If a child goes to a parent or legal guardian how do you think they would react? It all depends on the family itself and how they handle situations like this.
According to “We can all end bullying” a teenager had shared her story. She was bullied ever since she was in the 7th grade and every time she got away from it, it would somehow come back and haunt her. Since the taunting of the bullying never stopped she decided to tell her story on a YouTube video. Days later she had killed herself. This article had shown how people are affected by the death of someone who was bullied and how they are going to take a stand. Victoria Ptashnick tells her story about how she was close to a friend who was being bullied everyday on the school bus. Now that she had made the mistake of not sticking up for her friend who she use to hang out with growing up and how they use to get in trouble a lot every day, she wants us to take a stand and if we see someone getting bullied then we should find a way where we can help them out and make life better for them (Victoria Ptashnick). Another story of bullying has actually taken a toll on the different side of the chart. This story was about a young girl who is now being charged with 20 counts of alleged assaults according to Julius Whigham. She had carried a diabetic meter that tells somebody their blood sugar and stabbed 20 other students with the meter (Julius Whigham). Not only are the victims involved but sometimes they find out who is bullying and they will do something like they did with this girl. According to Scott Stump there was a never ending story of a teenager. Another story of a teenager losing their life from being bullied, but the bullied never ended even with the teenagers death. The boy had a friend that was taunted and bullied after he had died from being bullied. She had gone to a homecoming dance a year later and the DJ that played her friends favorite song by Lady Gaga. Everybody started chanting her long gone friend but suddenly the bullies had started chanting “Your better off dead” or “We’re glad you’re dead” and hateful things like that. When she got home she was really upset. She was only supposed to go so she can grieve and also have a good time but that apparently never happened (Scott Stump).
Not only does bullying happen in the school with other kids it also happen with the home you may live in. There was a person by the name of Sneakyfox that she was bullied in her own home that she lived in. She was nagged and humiliated about her hair and finally she had agreed to cut it just so they would leave her alone. She was only 12 years old when her family started to bully her. Her sister would mock her and call her very ugly names and sometimes even threw objects at here. She was very well talked bad about at home and very scared of going home (Sneakyfox). Not only do normal people like us get bullied but celebrities also had to go through the same things in high school and sometimes in middle school. A few of the short stories of how they experienced the hateful actions are very mean and we look up to the ones that didn’t let them affect their future. Jessica Alba was one of the few who were bullied in high school. It was so bad her dad walked her into the building just so his baby girl wouldn’t get attacked by those mean girls. She also had to eat her lunch in the nurse’s office so she wouldn’t have to sit by those mean girls according to Jessica. Another story about a celebrity would be Taylor Lautner who was bullied in his childhood. He was bullied in middle school only because he started in his career of being an actor. Even though he might have been in so much humiliation, he never stopped doing what he loved and it didn’t affect him on his career now.
If you want less bullying to take place in your area then maybe we should have some solutions to help us spread ways of preventing it. Some solutions are that your school should have an assembly that takes place to show the affects of bullying and what could happen. Some other ways could also be having a rule in the school where there is no bullying tolerated in that area. Talk to your child about school and see if they get agitated or try to change the subject. Let them know that you are there to help them. If your child tells you that they are being bullied at school, listen to them and let them explore ways they would like to handle the situation. Other ways for you to share prevention of bullying is to encourage your child to talk to a teacher and principle about the bullying and specifically the bullies who are bullying them. If nothing is done after that, then it’s time for you to take action and be the parent. Do not treat bullying as a natural part of growing up or believe that it will all work itself out eventually. Bullying is a serious situation and has caused some children to commit suicide. Stays actively involved with your child’s school and constantly talk to your child. We need to take a stand and don’t be afraid to talk to people when there is something going on that shouldn’t. There’s enough deaths from bullying and that NEEDS TO STOP!!!
I agree it should be stopped and adressed. You made some very good points that people need to take into concideration.
